Affiliate Disclosure

The short version

That is the disclosure required by the United States Federal Trade Commission, and it is also just how the site pays for itself. The rest of this page explains it properly.

How an affiliate link actually works

An affiliate link is an ordinary product link with a tracking code attached. When you click it, the retailer records that you arrived from Yard Tactic. If you go on to buy within the tracking period, the retailer pays us a small percentage of the sale. The price you pay is exactly the same as it would be if you had typed the retailer’s address into your browser directly.

We do not see your name, your payment details, your delivery address or the individual items in your basket. The retailer reports commissions to us in aggregate. Affiliate links on this site carry the standard sponsored and nofollow attributes so search engines can identify them as commercial links.

Programs we participate in

• Amazon Associates. Our primary affiliate program and the source of most commercial links on this site.
• Other affiliate networks and direct merchant programs. Where a manufacturer or specialist retailer stocks something Amazon does not carry well, we may use another affiliate network or a direct merchant program. Those links are disclosed on the same terms as the rest.

If our program participation changes materially, this page is updated and the last updated date at the top changes with it.

What commission does not change

• It does not decide our recommendations. Products are selected on how their published specifications fit a stated job, not on commission rate or price.
• It does not buy a position. We do not accept payment for placement, for a ranking, or for a favourable mention, and we never have.
• It does not soften the criticism. Every recommendation on this site names the situation in which it will not work. That section is mandatory and it is written the same way whether a link earns us anything or not.
• It does not push you toward the expensive option. If the cheaper product is the better fit, or if the honest answer is that you do not need to buy anything, that is what the guide says.
• It does not cost you a cent. Affiliate commission is paid by the retailer out of its own margin. Your price is unaffected.

How our recommendations are made

Because the money comes from links, you deserve to know exactly how the picks behind those links are chosen. Yard Tactic is research based. Our guides are assembled from manufacturer specifications, published documentation including manuals, safety data sheets and registered label text, guidance from university extension services and state wildlife agencies, and verified owner reports read in volume.

We do not perform hands on field testing or laboratory testing, and we never claim to. Any score or ranking reflects that research based method and nothing else. The full statement is on our disclaimer page and our about page.

Where disclosure appears

In line with FTC guidance, disclosure is placed where a reader will see it before acting on a link. That means a plain language notice near the top of any article containing affiliate links, above the first such link, a permanent notice in the site footer, and this page, which is linked from the footer and from every legal page.

Not every link on this site is an affiliate link. Links to extension services, wildlife agencies, manufacturer documentation and our own guides earn us nothing and exist purely because they are useful.

Prices, availability and purchases

Prices and availability shown on a retailer’s site at the time of purchase are the ones that apply. Anything mentioned here can change without notice. Your purchase is a contract between you and the retailer, on their terms, and questions about delivery, warranty, returns or product safety go to them rather than to us.
