Who this applies to

This policy covers yardtactic.com and explains how we handle information about people who visit the site. By using Yard Tactic you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree with them, please stop using the site.

Questions about this policy, or any request to see, correct or delete information we hold about you, go to hello@yardtactic.com.

What we collect

Information you give us

If you email us or submit a contact form, we receive whatever you choose to include: usually a name, an email address and the content of your message. We use it to answer you and to fix whatever you told us about. We do not add it to a marketing list, we do not run a newsletter, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.

If comments are enabled on an article and you leave one, the name, email address and comment text you submit are stored so the comment can be displayed and moderated. Your email address is not published.

Information collected automatically

Like almost every website, our hosting and analytics systems record technical information when a page loads. That includes your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device type, approximate location derived from the IP address, the page you requested, the page that referred you, and the date and time of the request. We use this to keep the site running, to see which guides are useful, and to identify abuse or attacks.

We do not knowingly collect information that identifies you by name from this automatic logging, and we do not attempt to combine it with your name or email address.

03

Cookies and similar technologies

Yes, this site uses cookies. A cookie is a small text file stored by your browser. We use them for basic site function, for anonymous analytics, and for affiliate link attribution. Full detail, including how to switch them off, is in our cookie policy.

Affiliate cookies are worth understanding specifically. When you click an affiliate link, the retailer sets a cookie that records that you arrived from Yard Tactic. If you then buy something within that cookie’s lifetime, the retailer credits us with a commission. That cookie is set and read by the retailer, not by us. We never see your payment details, your delivery address or the individual items you bought.

04

Third parties we rely on

Some of the services that make this site work receive information about your visit. Each one has its own privacy policy, which governs what it does with that information.

We do not sell personal information to any of these providers or to anyone else.

If we add or remove a service that receives visitor data, this table is updated and the last updated date at the top of the page changes.

05

How long we keep things

  • Email correspondence. Kept while the conversation is open and for a reasonable period afterwards so we can pick up a follow up. Deleted on request.
  • Comments. Retained with the article for as long as the article is published, unless you ask us to remove them.
  • Server logs. Retained for a short period for security and troubleshooting, then rotated out automatically.
  • Analytics data. Retained according to the retention settings of the analytics provider, in aggregated and anonymised form.

06

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to object to how we use it, or to withdraw consent you previously gave.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, those rights come from the General Data Protection Regulation. If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you the right to know what personal information is collected, to request its deletion, and to opt out of the sale of personal information. Yard Tactic does not sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of on that point.

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@yardtactic.com and tell us what you want. We will respond within the time period required by the law that applies to you, and we will not treat you differently for asking.

07

Children

Yard Tactic is written for adults making decisions about property they own or manage. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, email hello@yardtactic.com and we will delete it.

08

Security, and changes to this policy

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect the information we hold, including encrypted connections and access controls. No website can promise perfect security, and we do not.

We may update this policy as the site changes or as the law changes. When we do, we revise the last updated date at the top of this page. Material changes will be reflected here rather than announced individually, so it is worth checking this page if you have a specific concern.
